REVIEW: Not Dead Enough @ New Theatre

Posted on:   Posted by:

Peter James is one of the UK’s most successful crime novelists and he recently turned his attention to stage adaptations of his bestselling page turners. The most recent of these, Not Dead Enough, this week found its way to Cardiff’s New Theatre, and was received with great vigour and applause.

The story follows DS Roy Grace (played by Emmerdale’s Bill Ward) as a crime from his past comes back to haunt him in the form of a new wave of killings. The culprit seems obvious to everyone, yet something just doesn’t feel quite right and as Grace investigates deeper, he puts those he cares about on the line to bring justice to those who deserve it.

Alongside Ward stars Laura Whitmore as Grace’s love interest Cleo Morey and Corrie’s Stephen Billington as the initial victim’s husband, entrepreneurial Brian Bishop. The entire cast work well together to bring James’ riveting story to life, and along with a clever set design by Michael Holt serve to provide a fine success of a play.

A good murder mystery should have you guessing and perplexed until the end and Not Dead Enough certainly qualifies; but then what else would expect from a crime master such as Peter James.
