The opportunity

Mind Our Future Gwent is looking for a group of 10 Peer Researchers aged 16-24 who live, or have personal connections in Gwent (Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Monmouthshire, Newport or Torfaen) to become part of the Mind Our Future Gwent (MoFG) team.

Young people from all backgrounds and abilities are encouraged to apply.

As a Peer Researcher, you will be able to help shape the future of young people’s mental health in Gwent by assisting in the development of the Mind our Future Gwent project.

Does this sound like you?

  • A passion to make changes to the mental health system in Gwent
  • Experience of mental health challenges (yourself or someone you know)
  • Ability to communicate well with other young people to gather their views
  • A commitment and willingness to learn new skills
  • Involved with communities/groups with other young people (e.g. sports clubs,
    LGBTQI+ groups etc.)

There is flexibility around what tasks you can be involved in.

We would like a mixture of abilities, so we will ensure you are not given tasks you don’t feel comfortable with. Training will be provided and no previous work experience is needed.

Tasks may include:

  • Helping to gather information about the needs of young people living in your
    communities within Gwent
  • Engaging meaningfully and actively listening to other young people in a variety of
    focus groups, mind mapping sessions, and online/in-person workshops
  • Acting as a role model to the young people involved
  • Participating in team building days to get to know the team
  • Assisting with the development of a fun youth residential and attending the event
  • Contributing your own views and ideas to help shape our project

After we have spoken to everyone, the panel will select the successful candidates.
