PREVIEW: Man of La Mancha

“To dream the impossible dream…”

That has been the mantra for Quixotic Cardiff, whose upcoming debut theatrical production ‘Man of La Mancha’ comes to the beautiful Gate Arts Centre, Roath, next week for two nights only; the 9th and 10th of June.

Originally premiering on Broadway in 1965, Man of La Mancha is one of the most acclaimed musicals of all time, echoing the success of it’s source material, the novel ‘Don Quixote’, over 350 years previously. The hit song ‘The Impossible Dream’ has since become an enduring ode to pursuing one’s goals, and continues to be covered by countless artists to this day.

Failed author and playwright, Miguel de Cervantes and his faithful manservant are thrown into a dungeon to await trial by The Inquisition. Running afoul of the thieves and murderers who join him there, Cervantes is forced to prove his worth before a kangaroo court of his fellow inmates, and endeavours to earn their respect with a re-enactment of his most peculiar tale about a delusional old man who believes himself to be a valiant knight…

This new production sees recently-formed group, Quixotic Cardiff, re-imagine the classic show with innovative staging and a young cast and crew, including current and former students of both Cardiff University and RWCMD. With a live orchestra and heaps of Spanish flair, this show is sure to captivate audiences of all ages. Tickets available now for the 9th/10th June 2017, 7:30pm.

Tickets are just £8/£7, and can be booked at www.ticketsource.co.uk/quixotic-productions or www.thegate.co.uk (box office 02920 483344)
