Not much longer now. I can smell that Christmas break already!
Have you got your christmas shopping done yet? Judging by the crowds on my way home every day, a lot of people are still working on it! There’s no need to be bored because you spent all your money on presents: here’s what’s free and cheap in Cardiff this week.
Porters’ Musical Singalong
Thurs 6 Dec 8:30pm – Porters Cardiff – Free entry (18+ only)
This night is on every week and recently has been super popular because no less than Lin Manuel Miranda (the writer of Hamilton) has been sighted several times belting out some show tunes in an incognito hoodie and trackies. LMM has probably gone back to the States now though, so it’ll just be you and a bunch of cool Cardiff kids who love a good musical. Have a singalong! Read more on Facebook or just turn up.
PODS’ Pinocchio Panto
6-9 Dec – Paget Rooms, Penarth – £10
The locally famous Penarth Operatic and Dramatic Society has been working on this for ages. It’s a pantomime which retells the story of the wooden boy whose nose grows when he lies. Might be decent, can’t say, haven’t seen it. There’s a cast with a wide range of ages and I know one of them. I know, media bias, right? More info here.
Rave In Aid
Fri 7 Dec 9pm – Gwdihw – £3
There’s obviously a dozen club nights on in Cardiff every night of the week, but why not go to one for a good cause? Gwdihw are hosting this rave in support of Cardiff’s homeless population, where you can donate much needed items like scarves and hats on the way in, plus your entry fee will be going to the Huggard Centre as well to support the good work they do. More info on Gwdihw’s website.
Benthyg – Borrow Don’t Buy – Saturday Opening
Sat 8 Dec 11am – The Old Library
Wales’ first library of things opens to the public every Saturday. How cool is that? Did you know for example the average power drill is used 15 minutes over its lifetime- why not just borrow one from your local tool library? More info on Facebook.
Jigsaw Library
Sat 8 Dec 10am – Rhiwbina Library
One for the North Cardiffians and it seems that this week’s list is going to see you visiting a lot of libraries. More of a family event, every week kids and adults get together at Rhiwbina Library to solve some jigsaw puzzles! More on Rhiwbina Events.
