Anya, 14: I Now Know What I Deserve from a Relationship

Posted on:   Posted by:

As part of the Frisky Not Risky campaign, 14-year-old Anya shared her thoughts about sexual health and relationships and talked about her experience accessing support from the SHOT: Healthy Relationship Service

Receiving support from SHOT

I was referred to SHOT by Children’s services.

Before talking to my SHOT worker, I looked online or asked my sister and cousins for information and advice about sex and relationships. There are lots of things on TikTok which are not true!

Since receiving support, my SHOT worker and I have talked about relationships, contraception, peer pressure, sex and the law, keeping safe, consent, and risky behaviour.

It’s been valuable learning what a healthy relationship looks like and how to stay safe in and out of a relationship. I now know what I deserve from a relationship – how to be treated!

Talking without judgement

It’s good to have someone to talk to people who are not teachers or social workers. The team at SHOT are really easy to talk to, and I like the sessions.

I also talk about what I’ve learnt about sex and relationships with friends.

Talking about sexual health and relationships can be embarrassing, but it shouldn’t be! My advice is don’t bottle it up.
