Local community energy project Cardiff Deaf Centre is in the running for share of £300,000 M&S Energy Community Energy Fund.
Cardiff based Deaf Centre has launched a campaign calling for the local community to show its support after it was shortlisted for a national renewable community energy project competition.
Cardiff Deaf Centre has supported Deaf people in Cardiff and the surrounding area for over 100 years , the building used for the centre is in need of some serious ‘TLC’, it needs bringing up to date and refurbishing.
The centre is now the home of play and support group Cardiff Deaf Creative Hands and really must be made safe for the children that use the centre, as well as the adults that represent other groups that meet at the centre.
Trustees anticipate the refurbished centre becoming a HUB for the Deaf Community in Cardiff and the surrounding area . A safe location where all are welcome but also a location for support services for the Deaf Community.
Siobhan Darian , Chair of Cardiff Deaf Creative Hands Support Group said “Cardiff Deaf Centre refurbishment & development programme is really important because our centre is in disrepair and we must get the building right to ensure we can support the future generations of Cardiff’s Deaf Community .”
M&S Energy launched the M&S Energy Community Fund earlier this summer, with up to £300,000 available to support community renewable energy projects and technologies across the UK. M&S Energy will be awarding regional funding awards for projects across Great Britain that require a maximum of £12,000 and Judges’ prizes for the most innovative or inspiring projects.
