Under 18’s can win a chance to host their own national radio show and be mentored by top radio talent in the Young Audio Awards!
Let’s take a look at this short explainer video all about the awards from 2020:
How to enter
The Young Audio Awards are the national awards for 8 to 18-year-olds (and schools) with a passion for creating audio, such as radio shows and podcasts.
If you’d like to enter, there are loads of categories to choose from. You can see the full list here. This year, the Young Audio Awards have teamed up with mental health charity YoungMinds to create a new category My Year In Audio, about life in the pandemic.
In your entry, you’ll need to include your audio submission and a personal statement to give more info about your piece of audio. You can find advice for submissions and info on how to enter here.
Entries close in mid-February.
A new category
Following a rollercoaster 2 years in the pandemic, it is apt that this new category has been created. It encourages under 18’s from across the UK to use phones, tablets or microphones to record their thoughts about the last two years.
The aim is to encourage young people to talk about their feelings and emotions during this stressful time. Entries could be about the things that have helped young people cope in challenging times, advice for others, or lessons learnt during the pandemic.
The audio entry could be in the form of a podcast or radio show, an interview, a piece of poetry, and much more. Audio can be used in any form, as long as it shows creativity, honesty and expression!
Winners are offered a chance to host their own show on a national radio station, plus the chance of winning state-of-the-art audio recording equipment, as well as money-can’t-buy mentorship and masterclass events with some of Britain’s top radio presenters.
If you’re stuck for ideas or want to check out your competition, you can listen to last years submissions.
