Interview with Mary Elizabeth Williams

Interviewed by James Ellis, filmed by Delia Stan
Welsh National Opera, Wales Millennium Centre
Wednesday 17th January 2018

I’ve been a huge fan of Mary Elizabeth Williams since her first visit to Cardiff when she first did WNOs Tosca. Any time she is back in Cardiff is always an event in itself and she should not be missed by any account. Luckily, I’ve had the good fortune to interview her for this coming season.

I’ll confess, this was my first face to face interview, but that would never deter me. But, if I could do it with anyone, it would have to be with Mary. How fascinating to hear how a singer deals with the everyday functions of the career and how even more relatable it is being an artist in today’s world. No doubt, encouraging words for any aspiring creative. What makes her so special is her mesmeric voice, which works wonders in Verdi and Puccini. It would be fascinating to see her take on roles in Wagner!

I’ll let the interview speak for itself.

This will going to be an exciting season. Toi toi toi to you Mary!

Mary Elizabeth Williams stars in Welsh National Opera’s brand new production of Verdi’s La forza del destino and select performances of Puccini’s Tosca, this spring season at the Wales Millenium Centre, Cardiff and Venue Cymru, Llandudno.
