Sprout photographer Liam Richards was on the scene when cyclist Geraint Thomas, fresh off the heels of his Tour de France victory, arrived at Cardiff Castle last Thursday. The crowds were insane, and the choppers were really loud. Which is why the pictures need to do the talking.
Outgoing First Minister Carwyn Jones and comedian Max Boyce were on hand to pay tribute to Thomas.
Unfortunately, we haven’t been able to get photos of Carwyn and Geraint stumbling out of Live Lounge several hours later.
Some of us had never seen so many cameramen.
The event’s organization drew some criticism on Twitter, with cyclists saying they hadn’t been catered for in terms of cycling to the event. Ironically.
I’m not sure if anyone actually got Geraint’s autograph, or if they all just shoved their mobiles in his face.
To this man, Geraint is the world. “GERAINT! GERAINT! GERAINT!!!”
Are there future Tour winners amongst the crowd? Who will be making Wales proud in 2040?
Two blue lads accost Geraint.
Maybe they are his bodyguards.
The winning bike and helmet, sure to be best-sellers this Christmas.
As Max Boyce said, maybe they should rename the Severn Bridge the Geraint Thomas Way.
Yellow = big mood.
