Tis the time to be loud and proud! Pride Cymru’s Big Weekend hits Cardiff this week. If it’s not your scene, don’t worry! There’s loads of other stuff going on in Wales’ 24-hour party city.

Pride Cymru’s Big Weekend 2018

A celebration of alternative sexual and gender identities. And what a celebration it is! Cardiff’s famous Bingo Lingo event will be taking over for a couple of hours on top of hordes of amazing bands all booked. I think the appearances of Cher and Amy Winehouse on the setlists might be tribute acts, though… More info on Pride’s website.

Pride Cymru’s Pride Parade 2018

25 Aug 11am-12:30pm – Cardiff City Centre – Free

“Last year’s parade had over 7000 participants stretching over a mile long through the streets of Cardiff, we’re confident that this year will be bigger, brighter and louder!” This free event complements the Big Weekend and harks back to the origins of the international pride movement as a protest against the repression of LGBT people worldwide. More information including the route here.

The Big Queer Picnic 2018

Aug 25 1pm-5pm – Sophia Gardens – Free

Many LGBT activists aren’t too keen on the mainstream pride parade, feeling that it has become commercialised and warped the original intentions of the pride movement. If you want a more chilled event with a picnic and probably a few people strumming guitars and getting to know each other, this will be the better choice for you. Check it out on Facebook.

Another bit of exciting news from the No Fit State Circus is that they are now accepting applications for their 2018-19 Youth Bursary. Apply here.
