Ever wondered what the future will be like in 50 years time? 13-year-old Edith, a finalist from Chapter’s Postcards From The Future competition, explains the vision behind her artwork.
What was your inspiration for the artwork?
Probably the classic idea of aliens taking over the world… it’s so unrealistic that it’s exciting. I love the film ET, and although weird slimy green creatures stealing the earth probably isn’t everybody’s dream reality, I still think it’s pretty cool.
How do you feel about being included in a professional art exhibition in Chapter?
I’ve always loved art, so I find it really exciting and a great opportunity. Especially somewhere like Chapter where I’ve spent so much time over the years.
What other creative things do you do?
I love to paint, draw, doodle etc. If I can’t sleep, I’ll draw. If I’m bored in class, I’ll draw little faces over my book. Sometimes I watch my favourite films and sketch the characters. Sometimes they’re rubbish and sometimes they’re good but it’s something I do to relax and I love it.
Is there anything else that you’d like to say about being a finalist?
I feel honoured, and as I’ve said before, I love Chapter and the community so it’s great that i get to be a part of their 50th Anniversary. I’m super excited and grateful.
