‘Unsavoury scenes’ at Cardiff Bay

Cardiff Bay is becoming a regular focal point for late night parties

On Saturday 11 June 2020, a ‘dispersal order’ was given for people behaving “in an anti-social manner” in the Oval Basin area of Cardiff Bay. The  police have arrested a handful of people for being drunk and disorderly. Under a dispersal order, people can be asked to leave an area and not come back for up to 48 hours (Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014).

A dispersal order had previously been issued for Cardiff Bay for the early hours of Friday 26 June 2020. Residents had reported that social gatherings had taken place over three nights in June, with loud music and drunken behaviour.

Under both incidents, Cardiff Council undertook big clean up operations due to large amounts of litter being left behind.

South Wales police have noted on their Facebook page that they will be maintaining a visible presence in this area.
