SUMMIT: The Music Conference For Young People, By Young People

One year after music venues were forced to close in Wales, a group of young people have come together to prepare for the industry’s resurgence by creating a free, digital Welsh music industry conference, Summit.

A bit about Beacons

With the news of lockdown restrictions beginning to ease, music fans are eagerly counting down the days until venues and festivals open their doors again, and these four young people are keen to provide the support that’s needed.

As part of music project, Beacons, a group of four young consultants (age 16-25) recognised the need for support for young people wanting to get into the industry after lockdown. After having their careers put on hold for an entire year, Summit is an opportunity for them to reconnect with the industry, and gain insight on how they can work within it.

What is Summit?

Summit will take place online from Friday 9 April to Sunday 11 April and showcase a wide range of experts who work in a number of crucial areas that will help the industry to get back on its feet including, social media, songwriting, A&R, taste-making, side hustling, PR and more to be announced here.

Meet the Team

The young consultants (pictured above) are Lily Beau Conway, Sizwé Chitiyo, Llew Glyn and Alexandra Jones.

Alexandra Jones, one of the young consultants of Summit said, “it’s been a rubbish year for the music industry, and especially for young people like me who want to start their careers but have had to put it on pause. We’re hoping that Summit will help people to feel hopeful for their future in music.”

Llew Glyn, another young consultant said, “This is such a good opportunity for young people like me to learn from experts in the industry and hopefully find a way to work in it after lockdown.”

Spike Griffiths, Youth Development Officer at Beacons said, “We’re not sure how things will be when the music industry returns, but with so many young people keen to get into the industry, this is the perfect time to connect them with experts who can help them to kick start their careers.”

Beacons Summit will take place between Friday 9 April – Sunday 11 April, online and free tickets are now available here.
