February 4th 2022 is Welsh Language Music Day which celebrates the diversity and talent within Welsh Language music.

No matter what genre of music you like, there are loads of talented Welsh musicians creating new sounds for you to discover in Welsh. Here are some ways that you can get into the incredible Welsh music scene:

1 – Listen to new tunes

Take some time with Welsh Language Music Day to celebrate some of the incredible talent that we have across Wales.

You could try to find some new Welsh-speaking artists by checking out a Welsh music playlist. There’s plenty to choose from, including this great selection on Spotify:

Other popular Welsh language music playlists include this mix of Welsh tunes, this one for a school disco or kids birthday, and this one for if you’re working or studying from home.

2 – Never miss a beat

A great way to be introduced to new Welsh language music is by following some of the key social media pages.

You can find loads of Welsh music and interviews with Welsh artists on the Miswig Instagram page. It’s the official page associated with celebrating Welsh music. They also share links to new playlists regularly on their stories.

Horizons Cymru is a part of the BBC which is dedicated to developing young Welsh artists. They share both English and Welsh language music on their platforms.

You can also search for and share content using the #Miwsig and #DyddMiwsigCymru on your favourite social media platforms.

3 – Live music

The music scene across Wales is vibrant with lots of opportunities to catch local acts. In Cardiff, check out Welsh artists in venues such as Clwb Ifor Bach. To keep your eye on new Welsh music, check out Minty’s Gig Guide on Twitter or Facebook.

4 – Create music?

If you’re a musician in Wales, why not try to incorporate the Welsh language into your songs. It’s a great way to get others to learn a bit about our culture and can make your music really interesting and unique. Maybe you could even be featured on one of those playlists!

Some popular Welsh record labels to look out for include PYST and Libertino.

If you’re under 25 and hoping to get some support with your music as a Welsh musician, keep your eye out for Beacons Cymru, particularly on their hugely successful Forté project aiming to support artists across Wales.
