Free and Cheap things to do in Cardiff: 22-28 November

Posted on:   Posted by:

Read that date! 22-28 Nov! That means this week is one month before the week that Christmas is in! Anyone else getting oddly excited?

What are you looking forward to? Seeing all your family? Getting warm and cosy and some time off work and school? Not bothering going outside for days, save maybe a stroll round the park? Eating way too much? Presents, perhaps? Nah, I doubt anybody reading this is looking forward to getting presents, that would just be silly…

Anyway, your local Sprout is here to give you a few presents a whole month early. Those presents are a series of cheap and/or free events we’ve spotted out on the interwebs!

This week’s biggest event to keep in mind (it’s not cheap but may affect travel) is a rugby match: Wales play South Africa on Sat 24 Nov, 5:20pm at Principality Stadium.

Off peak skating at Winter Wonderland

Cardiff City Hall – £7

Ice skating at Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland doesn’t have to break the bank. Under-15s and students can have a go on the ice rink for as little as £7 at off peak times if you book online. I’m not saying ice skating is easy, though…

Do a backstage tour at the WMC

Weekend mornings – Donald Gordon Theatre, Wales Millennium Centre – £7

Did you know that the Millennium Centre offers backstage tours? Take a tour of everything you don’t usually get to see- what goes on behind the scenes at famous shows like Wicked, or undiscovered gems like Tuck? Book a tour here.

SPA Wales Conference

Saturday 24 Nov – Cardiff University Students Union – £6

Cardiff Students Union - Gair Rhydd
Cardiff Students Union – Gair Rhydd

Our friends at Cardiff Student Media are hosting the Welsh conference of the Student Publication Association. This will be a great chance to meet successful student journalists and even some real journalists, including Anna Lewis, former Gair Rhydd news editor and current WalesOnline reporter. Get your tickets today!

Ignite Cardiff 37

Wednesday 28 Nov 6.30pm – Glee Club, Cardiff Bay – Free

Ignite your passion for something random at these series of inspirational lightning talks. Sprout music writer Sophie is probably going to be doing a talk on how the Arctic Monkeys helped her beat anxiety. Get your tickets now.

Small Fry

Wednesday 28 Nov – Weston Studio, Wales Millenium Centre – Pay what you Want

Promising “Sex, Sales and Sausage Rolls”, this looks like a fun bit of performance art down at the Centre. It explores a young woman’s life, using her sexuality in her job at Queen Street and outside of her work. Best of all it’s pay what you want.
