The Future Is Feminist

“A feminist is a person who believes in the power of a woman just as much as they believe in the power of anyone else” – Zendaya

About the campaign

The Future Is Feminist is a two-week campaign running from 7th-18th June. It was created for TheSprout in collaboration with young people part of the Young Creators from Cardiff Youth service.

The idea of The Future Is Feminist campaign stemmed from conversations with young people during the disappearance and murder of Sarah Everard in March 2021. In the wake of these events, there was lots of attention on social media and in the news about women’s safety. Questions such as ‘why was she walking around alone at night?’ and ‘what was she wearing?’ were thrown around to try to make sense of the terrible events that were unravelling before us. Comments such as these are problematic, to say the least.

From this, young people across Cardiff joined together to discuss important related issues such as women’s rights, empowerment, safety, and equality. The group worked together to create content for a campaign – The Future is Feminist, to raise awareness of the issues still facing women today and campaign for change!
