A hoard of Viking silver, which dates back 1000 years ago, will be displayed for the first time as part of the Treasures: Adventures in Archaeology exhibition at National Museum Cardiff (on display until 30 October 2016.)

What the hoard is Treasures: Adventures in Archaeology?! To celebrate 2016, Year of Adventure in Wales, the Museum is hosting extraordinary treasures from popular culture including the hat, whip and jacket of Indiana Jones, crystal skulls and Inca gold alongside early finds such as Egyptian Mummies and recent discoveries from Wales.

St Fagans National History Museum

First building, an Iron Age farmstead, completed as part of major redevelopment

Bryn Eryr, the Iron Age farmstead at St Fagans National History Museum, is now fully open to the public. The building, which is based on an archaeological site from the time of the Roman conquest, is a recreation of a small Iron Age farmstead near Llansadwrn in the eastern corner of Anglesey.

The farmstead was built with the help of hundreds of volunteers, school children and members of neighbouring communities in Ely and Caerau. Together with the Museum’s own building team, they raised up the clay walls, helped to interpret the history of the houses and rediscovered the lives of its original inhabitants.
