The hunt for aspiring TV presenters, radio DJs or YouTubers is on, as young people across Wales are encouraged to apply to be the “face” of SkillsCymru 2018.
SkillsCymru is Wales’ largest annual series of careers, skills, jobs and apprenticeship events and will return to Cardiff and Llandudno in October 2018.
The organisers are searching for new “hosts”, who will be followed by a film crew as they explore the event and interview exhibitors and visitors.
The presenter might be an apprentice or could be in school, college, university or work-based training, but will ultimately have a passion for broadcast media. They will be supported by a professional camera crew, and will gain unique experience interacting with lots of different people on camera.
Young people aged 16-25 can apply and must submit a 60 second video clip explaining why they should be the face of SkillsCymru. Be as creative as possible, and show off your outgoing, approachable personality! Welsh speakers are encouraged to enter with bilingual videos to show off their Welsh language skills.
The entries will be judged by a panel including media professionals and PR experts. Winners will be chosen, to cover the events in Cardiff on either 10 or 11 October or Llandundo on the 18 October so the winners must be available from 8am – 3pm for these dates.
The deadline to enter the competition is Friday 7 September 2018 and the winners will be notified by Friday 14 September.

In 2017, Molly May James from Swansea and Rhianwen Pullen from Buckley were selected to represent SkillsCymru in Cardiff and Llandudno and were filmed trying out different careers from catering and coding to bricklaying and beatboxing while interviewing exhibitors, visitors and VIP guests.
Following her experience Molly, 16, said: “My experience with SkillsCymru has really given my CV a ‘wow factor’ and it’s also given me the confidence to not only interview a range of people but to interview them in front of the camera while still showing my personality and having fun!”
“I’m going to sixth form next year but I’m really looking to gain more experience in front of the camera as well as behind it during the next 2 years.”
Rhianwen, 23, was already working on local radio in North Wales when she applied to be the Face of SkillsCymru. She said after the event: “I had a great time at the event. It was a great experience and event to be a part of.”
