Green City Events is a not-for-profit organisation passionate about working within the community to make fun, environmentally friendly workshops and events.
They are holding a cross stitch project called Crossing Paths. The events manager, Becca Clark came up with idea after seeing the beautiful streets of Valencia bursting with colour, wanting to be able to express that kind of beauty here. All the pieces made in this project have been created using recycled resources in Roath & Adamsdown. The idea is to use cross stitch to highlight the beautiful scenery around us. They have collaborated to make pieces using themes such as garden and wildlife which they will connect to create a giant cross stitch “bomb” throughout the community.
The meetings have been in secret and they now have built up enough preparation just in time for the madeinroath festival. Founded in 2008, madeinroath festival aims to bring art into the community for a better reflection of the variety of art within the south wales scene.
What’s being said about the project?
“The perception of cross-stitch needs to taken out of the parlour and onto the streets; nothing like a bit of subversiveness to challenge the every-day!” – Dorcas Frazer
“As a prolific stitcher, I was thrilled to be part of Crossing Paths. Not only was it a great opportunity to meet other Cardiff Creative types it was so much fun stitching up giant cross stitches” – Charlotte, Twin Made
“I wanted to learn a new way of sewing and I had good fun experimenting. I can’t wait to tell people; I’ve been very good at keeping this a secret!” 10 year old Osian Allsopp
