Review: MARY BIJOU @ FFRESH CABARET BAR, WMC

A night full of Christmas themed entertainment featuring music, comedy, dance, and circus performances.

Mary Bijou’s Annual Christmas extravaganza took place at Wales Millennium Centre’s Ffresh Cabaret Bar on Friday 14th of December.

Introduced by George Orange as the master of ceremonies, the show was oriented towards adult audiences and of a clearly underground nature. Circus performances, humorous stripteases, and a young pianist and charming solo vocalist, were only a few of the main acts of the night.

Two of the main acts of the night were performed by Alise Piebalga: a hilarious sword act with George, full of hazardous fruit moments; and a sassy Vogue hula hoops act, using flashing LED hoops twirled around her waist, limbs and neck.

Miss Betty Blue Eyes brought to the audience the sexiest acts of the night, a humorous Preoccupied and Betty On the Bottle burlesque acts. (Betty’s site  is a little risque- click with caution! -Ed)

Between the shows, there was also a moment of audience interaction. Sparked by a free shot of rum, three daring opponents had to complete different challenges, like getting a biscuit from their forehead to mouth, or passing their body through an open bucket.

Providing an iconic scenery for the show, was the cabaret and cocktail bar Ffresh, situated at the heart of Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff Bay. We didn’t want to miss the opportunity to taste some of the delicious if  not overly generous platters and burgers.

In summary, it was great a great night of fun, and I would recommend to experience this collective of international circus and cabaret artists, who create exciting, and immersive performances in intimate, and alternative spaces.
