Concert of the Unexpected: A Celebration of Roald Dahl Starring Michael Sheen // St. David’s Hall, Cardiff // Friday 21st October 2016 // From £5
To all dedicated Sprout readers, if you thought that the Roald Dahl centenary celebrations were over with the City of the Unexpected, then you were wrong as we are now proud to present the world premiere of the Concert of the Unexpected: A Celebration of Roald Dahl at St. David’s Hall on Friday 21st October 2016.
Based on the action-packed and colourful life of Roald Dahl, highlights will include Dahl’s war years as a pilot (Walton’s Spitfire, Prelude and Fugue); his Norwegian family roots (Grieg’s much loved Peer Gynt Suite) and one of Dahl’s most popular tales (Charlie And The Chocolate Factory).

As an added piece of excitement Hollywood A-lister Michael Sheen, Welsh composer Bernard Kane Jr and Roald Dahl biographer, Donald Sturrock will be in attendance in a pre-concert talk, The Marvellous Mind of Mr Dahl, to share their favourite thoughts, memories and insights on Dahl’s work. This magical family concert forms part of Cardiff’s City of the Unexpected festival, which celebrates 100 years of Dahl.
Please note, although the start time of the event is 7.30pm, the actual performance from the Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra will begin at the later than previously advertised time of 7.50pm and be preceded by the 20-minute pre-concert talk on stage in the auditorium.
