As part of the Summer of Smiles, we have commissioned 7 remarkably talented young people to each create a piece of art.
Cardiff is filled with heaps of talent from young creatives, who have had it particularly hard during the pandemic.
The Summer of Smiles was as an unmissable opportunity to celebrate young people and support their love of being creative.
We teamed up with ProMo-Cymru and Child Friendly Cardiff to open some paid commission opportunities for young people as part of the festival.
The application process
As part of the application process, young people were required to share examples of their previous artwork, a commission idea from the given brief, and what it meant to them to be a young person living in Cardiff.
A panel of judges selected 7 successful commission applicants from Cardiff aged between 14-18 , who all submitted exceptional applications. We later met will all the successful applicants virtually to discuss their commission idea and provide support.
Tell me more about the artists!
Our 7 young artists include Alicia (18), Eshaan (17), Rosie (17), Nalani (15), Farah (14), Faaris (14), and Saabiqah (14).
Come and check out TheSprout’s stall at the main festival site to see examples of their previous work, learn more about them as creatives, and have a sneak peak at what they’re working on for the commission.
During the last week of the festival between 2 – 8th August, we will be exhibiting the young artists final commissioned pieces at our stall!
Supporting young people
As well as providing an excellent platform for young people to practice their art and get seen at the festival, we have provided each successful applicant with £300 for their artwork.
