Podcasts to Better Understand your Mental Health

Mental Health Awareness Week is a great time to learn more about other people’s experiences with mental health as well as your own.

Podcasts and mental health

When feeling lonely, hearing someone’s voice can be so comforting. Listening to podcasts is a way to feel that without actually having to see anyone. Podcasts help me to understand my emotions, to know that I’m not alone, and make me laugh if I’m feeling down.

The great thing about podcasts is that you can listen to them anywhere! You could try to listen to one when you’re:

Podcasts recommendations

Here are my top podcast recommendations for a bunch of different themes associated with mental health, emotional wellbeing, and self-love. I hope they can help you as much as they help me!

Loneliness

Same but Different

In this podcast, Keelin Moncreiff, an Irish 20-something-year-old discusses topics like mental health, sustainability, and dating advice.

Eating Disorders

Recovery Talk

Recovery Talk is a podcast all about eating disorder recovery. You can find a range of episodes on topics really helpful in recovery like ‘Comparison In Recovery’, ‘Fear Foods’, and ‘Metabolism’.

Anxiety

Goes Without Saying

Hosted by best friends Sephy and Wing, each week they honestly talk about their mental health, analyse topics like being ‘that girl’, and give out great life advice. Rated explicit for swearing.

Depression

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

On Purpose with Jay Shetty features weekly episodes on tips for finding purpose in life and conversations with fascinating people.

Comedy

Off Menu with Ed Gamble and James Acaster

In my personal favourite podcast of all time, comedians Ed Gamble and James Acaster interview different celebrities each week to discuss their dream menu. This is a great podcast to get new food recommendations and hear funny stories from your favourite celebrities. Rated explicit for swearing.

Self love

In It Together with Ella Glows

In It Together with Ella Glows is the best way to describe this podcast. Every episode feels like you’re having a catch up with a friend. In times of loneliness, sometimes that’s all you need.
