Black History Month 2020

What is Black History Month?

October 1st marks the first day of Black History Month (BHM) in the UK, which has been taking place since 1987. Black History Month is an annual observance which originated in the United States of America, where it is also known as African-American History Month. It aims to celebrate the important people and events in the history of people of African and Caribbean descent. Black History Month is a great opportunity for people from all backgrounds to educate themselves on black history and the often-overlooked people who have made a difference to the country.

How can I get involved?

Firstly, Black History Month Wales provides annual workshops and events to get involved with during BHM. You can check out the events via their What’s On page on their website. One great in-person event is running in collaboration with Windrush Cymru project at St. Fagans Museum.
