Game Review: The Escapists 2 (Is it Worth It?)

The Escapists 2 is a sequel to The Escapists and the third game in the The Escapists series. The game is being developed by Team17 and is set to be released on PC, Xbox, Playstation 4 on August 22nd and Nintendo Switch at an unknown date.

The game is set to have more detailed sprites and tiles, more ways to escape, more things to craft out of old toothbrushes and belly button fluff, a revised battle system, and more. The game is going to launch with 10 prisons and an additional (The glorious regime) if you Pre-Order the game.”  (Source)

The Escapists. The prison break simulator. You have probably heard about this series one way or another. Maybe your favourite YouTuber has played it. Maybe it was advertised to you online. Maybe your friends bragged about how they beat up all the guards and just walked out the building, or you’re just a fanatic yourself. I bought The Escapists a few years ago and tried to escape. I failed over and over again, then gave up. This year me and a friend came back to this game and decided to see who could leave first, it was a fun, but I found it a bit repetitive.

Then I was told the team behind the game was making a sequel and was taking pre-orders. I hoped they would build on this game and maybe fix a few things I did not like about it. Then on August 22nd, it was released and I bought it on the same day. But should you buy it?

The first thing to know is that the menu is a LOT better. It is a much better design, with a video of a camera looking over the prisons in the background and the music is quite catchy. Another small feature is the map which shows you each floor of the prison (including underground, vents and floors).

They really improved the art design of the sequel and FINALLY has more than two frames of a walk cycle, FINALLY.

Some of the great new prisons were the vehicle prisons like trains, boats and aeroplanes. They provided for some unique escapes, but most of them were very linear. Just get the items you need and stand near the required area and press “E”.

But one of the only reasons why I bought this game was for the multiplayer. I played it, and it was great. A few bugs here and there (my friend seemed to go through the wall now and then), but it was really fun. One of the new features was there was some escapes you needed a friend for, like they added a two player door. One person holds it open and another runs inside.

My conclusion

It is a great game. Not perfect, but I like this game a lot better than the original. The different kinds of prisons like the vehicles, made it less repetitive than the first game for me.

I rate this game 4/5 stars.
