FREE Things To Do in Cardiff: 11-17 October

Another busy week this week. It starts halfway through the Iris Prize LGBT+ Film Festival, and ends as the Sŵn music festival begins. This week though, you won’t even have to be on the look-out for cheap things to do, as every single event this week is free entry!

Save African Rhinos with the Wildlife Trust Cardiff

Thurs 11 Oct 7.30pm – Cardiff University Main Building, Wallace Lecture Theatre – Free

Mike Bruford, Professor of Conservation Biology at Cardiff University will be describing a project designed to understand better how rhinos can be saved. Mike describes the conservation efforts of both black and white rhinos both at present and in future.

Cardiff Animation Nights October ‘18 -4th Birthday Edition

The legendary night of animation is back. It’s been going strong for four years. See shorts from as far afield as Japan, Italy and America, and possibly even enjoy a slice of birthday cake. Facebook event.

An empty lecture theatre… geddit, cos the lecturers are all down Chapter?

Pride Cymru LGBT+ Youth Festival

Get information, socialise and watch short films! Part of the ongoing IRIS Prize festival, running all week at Cineworld (Read Ed’s preview of the festival here). This day is specifically designed for young people aged 12-25 and their friends and families. Register on Eventbrite.

Speaking of Facebook events, check this out. A LOT of people are in favour of gathering in front of central station for a big party the day that Arriva Trains Wales makes way for Transport for Wales. Whether it will actually happen at all is another question entirely.

A Nation’s Address

14-16 Oct – The Old Laundry (CF24 4SJ) – Free

Signal interference caused by Brexit? Possibly.

Speak truth to power, by delivering a two line address to Theresa May and Donald Trump, two of the biggest leaders in the world. The finished video will be shown at Made in Roath… though it’s sure to contain a few expletives! More info here

Myths for Millennials

Wed 17 Oct 7.30-10.30pm – The Gate – Free

A short series of theatre pieces giving modern Welsh twists on old tales from Orpheus to the Mabinogion. Once again (sorry!) it’s a Facebook event for more information.
