Free and Cheap Things to Do in Cardiff 15-21 November

Welcome back once again to the Sprout’s weekly round up of cheap and free events in Cardiff this week. We’re now halfway through November 2018, where has the year gone? I hope it’s been a good one for you.

I think I have a confession to make. The last few weeks, there’s been rugby and football fixtures almost every weekend. Whilst these events might not make it onto our cheap events listings, they DO impact on how busy Cardiff is. Some people might want to avoid the roads and railways on those days, so from now on I’ll make sure I mention them just to remind you that Cardiff will be busy.

Big Events this week:

Wales v Denmark (football)

Friday 16 November 7:45pm at Cardiff City Stadium

Wales v Tonga (rugby)

Saturday 17 November 2:30pm at Principality Stadium

Christmas comes to Cardiff

Thurs 15 Nov 4.30-7.30pm – City Centre

It’s the official start to the festive season! Visit Santa and attend the official opening of Cardiff’s annual Winter Wonderland fairground and ice rink! That’s not to mention the Christmas market which also opens Thursday. Watch various performances across the city centre as Cardiff Council puts on a real shindig. Bask in the glow of the castle’s Christmas lights. Read all about it here.

Winter Warmers

Thurs 15 Nov 6-10.30pm – Tiny Rebel

A cool concert for cool dudes in one of the coolest venues in town. Much like Shimmer Sounds (which Sophie previewed earlier this week) but even cheaper! Just £2 entry! Read more including the line-up on Facebook.

Llandaff Cathedral Choristers in Concert

Sun 18 Nov 5-6pm – Llandaff Cathedral

The choirboys of the city’s finest suburban cathedral are on their way to Sweden next year and are throwing a big show to raise some cash. It’s free to get in and if you like it you can pay to get out! More on the Facebook event.

Howl’s 1st Birthday

Sun 18 Nov 8pm – Tramshed – £7

It’s been a whole year since local comedy scene expert Lorna Prichard set up her comedy night at the Tramshed. Early bird tickets are already gone, but you can still get in for £7. Should be decent and the Tramshed is a nice venue anyway. I particularly like the little chocolate wafers you get in the Polish shop across the road. Read about the acts on the Facebook event or Jokepit to book tickets.

Radio Platfform Launch Party

Tuesday 20th Nov – 5.30-7pm – Wales Millennium Centre

The event of the week, as Radio Platfform hits the airwaves in a major way! Drinks, tunes and great company as the new youth radio station at the millenium centre celebrates its official opening. Be there or be square!

Cardiff Jobs Fair

Wed 21 Nov – 10am-2pm – City Hall

Bring a CV and get yourself a job at the regular city hall jobs fair.

Roath Park Nature Walk

Wed 21 Nov – 2.30-3.30pm – Roath Park

The Cardiff University Wildlife and Conservation Society are meeting up to destress from uni work and take a leisurely walk through the city’s best known park. Most likely you’ll be amongst people who know plenty about the wonderful birds and plants (or flora and fauna if you fancy) of the park. Take a look here.
