Do You Know The 4 T’s?

Diabetes UK Cymru have teamed up with a family that have lost their young son to Type 1 diabetes to raise awareness. Peter Baldwin was only 13 when he died from diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), a life threatening condition, which can happen when diabetic people are undiagnosed and untreated. 1 in 5 children with Type 1 diabetes aren’t diagnosed until they have DKA. This is why the Know Type 1 campaign was set up. The campaign aims to educate people on the symptoms of Type 1 diabetes.

This is where the 4 T’s come in

The first T- Toilet – Do you notice you are going to the toilet more often than usual?

Secondly- Thirsty- Are you really thirsty all the time even when you drink water?

Thirdly- Tired – Are you feeling more tired than usual?

Finally- Thinner – Are you losing weight or looking thinner than usual?

So there’s the four T’s, if all or any of these apply to you then don’t be afraid to talk to your friends, family or GP about it. It is better to know you’re ill and treat it rather than just worrying about it.
