As well as the challenges presented to the local Welsh music scene, the recent lockdown due to Covid-19 has meant that our city’s youth clubs have had to close; leaving the young people of Cardiff without the much needed safe space that they’d usually provide. Without this space, it has been a struggle for youth workers to stay connected and support young people through this global pandemic.
However, Cardiff Music Conference (CMC) and Ministry of Life (MOL) recognised this and thought what better way to bring people together than through music! They teamed up by launching their first exciting online event via Zoom to celebrate young people in Cardiff and show their appreciation for all that they have done over the past few months.
Although the event was based online, the energy of our vibrant city shone through! Even the home food delivery was catered for by local caterer ‘Mammapatty’s’. The award-winning Reggae artist, Aleighcia Scott, got involved and worked with the amazing B*Written to provide specialist lyric writing workshops. There were also live performances and a Q&A session. After feeling so inspired, the young people took part in open mic live from their very own bedrooms!
It’s safe to say the event was a huge success and CMC is looking forward to giving further opportunities through other exclusive online events.
