Celebrate bonfire night from the comfort of your own home!
November 5th is famously known as Bonfire Night in the UK. It remembers the attempt by Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot to blow up the Houses of Parliament in 1605. If you don’t fancy going out to an organised event, there’s still a bunch of fun activities that you can do from home. Check them out!
1 – Create Firework Wax Scratch art
Cover an A4 sheet of white paper in lots of different coloured wax crayons. Be as messy and colourful as you like. Then, paint over this sheet in black paint and leave it to dry. Once dry, use a cocktail stick or lolly stick to etch out a firework design on the paper. The acrylic paint will scratch away, leaving a colourful design.
2 – Make a rocket
Decorate an old toilet roll to make the body of the rocket. Attach a stick or straw on the inside of the rocket so you can make it look like it’s flying. You can use strips of coloured paper of ribbon for the fire and create a cone using coloured paper for the nose of the rocket.
3 – Get outdoors
Why not have a small fire or use sparklers outside. Remember to do so safely and with parental supervision. It’s recommended that you don’t set of fireworks yourself as its extremely dangerous and can be scary for your neighbours and surrounding pets. 4 – Make marshmallow sparklers
Pop a marshmallow on a skewer and dip the top of it into some melted chocolate. Whilst wet, dip the chocolate into some sprinkles and popping candy for a tasty bonfire treat.
5 – Glow stick hunt
Bonfire night is usually very colourful. How about you hide glow stick around your house and garden and try to find them. Glow sticks are a lot of fun and there are loads of activities you can do with them after!
