Apply now for the WRU Rugby Development Apprenticeships

The Welsh Rugby Union are looking for Apprentices. How exciting!

Make sure you apply quickly though- the deadline is 18th August.

Here’s the press release from their website

The Welsh Rugby Union is looking for 12 young people who want to give something back to their communities via a 12 month Rugby Development Apprenticeship.

The apprenticeship is an ideal way for young people (aged 18 -24) to earn while they learn. They will gain a Level 3 NVQ (Certificate & Diploma) in Sports Development along with a wealth of hands-on experience delivering rugby activities to participants of all ages and abilities within schools and community settings.

Past and present apprentices have gained confidence and key sport development skills through the year-long placement along with improving in areas such as independent learning and employability, which has helped gain University places and full-time jobs.

Rhodri Davies was working as an electrician’s mate before applying to be a WRU apprentice.

He said, “I wasn’t really comfortable with what I was doing. I was waking up every day wondering if I was doing the right thing then I saw a tweet about WRU apprenticeships, applied and haven’t looked back since. It’s benefitted me so much on a personal level and our mentors have been so helpful.”

Charlotte Graham-Woollard had volunteered in rugby roles in her community but always lacked confidence.

“I’ve been involved in rugby my whole life but I had serious confidence issues. Since being a WRU apprentice, I’ve been taken out of my comfort zone to the point where I now enjoy doing things like delivering rugby to large groups of children and giving presentations. I’ve had experiences I wouldn’t have dreamed of. My ideal job would be working with children and sport so the apprenticeship has given me an ideal grounding for whatever I do next.”
