Poster of A Way of Life

A Way of Life is a 2004 film by Amma Asante set in Wales about a fictional teenage mother called Leigh-Anne Williams who lives in a council flat in Cardiff. The film looks at motherhood, poverty and racism as some of its key themes and remains a powerful portrayal of Welsh life on film, firmly solidifying her reputation as a director.

Amma Asante is a British director who won the BAFTA Carl Forman award for a Way of Life in 2004. She has directed two films since, the historical romance Belle (2013) and A United Kingdom (2016) .

The event is being held as part of BAFTA’s Debut Film Tour, a celebration of the organisation’s 70th anniversary where BAFTA-winning debut feature films are shown across the United Kingdom. The event is a tribute to the film’s producer, Peter Edwards, who passed away in 2016. Pauline Burt, the CEO of Ffilm Cymru Wales will be hosting the live Q+A with Amma Asante. Tickets are £7.20 for adults, £5.10 for concessions.
