As the activists at the National Museum this week have made clear, the seas and rivers are getting clogged up with plastic because of humans’ obsession with single-use plastic packaging. The Sprout’s reporters went to meet one Cardiff resident with a vision to change that.
Sophie Rae set up a Kickstarter for her project, named Ripple, which is set to be Cardiff’s first non-profit, zero-waste shop. Since we conducted the interview, the Kickstarter was fully funded and even met a few stretch goals- raising more than £30,000! Which means the real hard work lies ahead…
Ripple would be the first shop of its kind in Cardiff, inspired by similar shops in places including Birmingham, Edinburgh, and Bristol. At zero waste shops products are stocked in bulk, and customers buy or bring large containers which are weighed, filled with produce, and then reweighed to produce the final bill.
In this video interview, Tom puts forward a few questions to Sophie about her shop, her previous experience, her Kickstarter hopes, and even the possibility of further zero waste shops in Cardiff.
