Independent Venue Week: It’s All About The Music… Business!

Posted on:   Posted by:

Music organisations PRS for Music and the British Academy of Songwriters Composers & Authors are to host an exclusive music business panel in Cardiff next Wednesday (25th of January) as part of Independent Venue Week.

‘It’s All About The Music…Business!’ is part of a UK-wide tour led by PRS for Music during Independent Music Week, which will see educational panels taking place in Brighton, Cardiff, Sheffield and Sunderland.

Hosted at The Big Top, the open to all event aims to bring local musicians, songwriters and performers together for a special opportunity, to hear from music industry experts and artists about the business side of the industry, what companies like PRS for Music and BASCA do for music creators, and the career options available to those wanting to get into other aspects of the industry such as artist management or promoting.

Professionals from across the music business will explain the importance of protecting your music rights, as well as providing valuable knowledge about the various ways that creating music can generate an income.

The ‘It’s All About The Music…Business!’ panel include Dan Moore, Head of Marketing & Membership at BASCA; Stuart Belsham, Education & Outreach Manager at PRS for Music; Connor Cupples, Jealous Lovers Club (label, promotions, publisher); Electronic Producer Philip Blame (aka 5th Spear) and singer-songwriter, Katell Keineg.

The hosting venue, The Big Top has played a massive role in the success of the music scene in Cardiff, supporting local talent for nearly 10 years.

Events and Venue Manager at The Big Top, Lloyd Griffiths said “We’d like to extend a warm welcome to Independent Venue Week and PRS for Music and thank them for continuing to support live music and venues. We look forward to hosting their panel with BASCA and hope our local artists get a lot out of it.”

Panellist, Education & Outreach Manager for PRS for Music, Stuart Belsham said “We’re thrilled to co-ost a panel alongside BASCA for music creators in Cardiff during Independent Venue Week. Live music venues are more important than ever in the music industry so it’s great to be able to discuss the art of DIY music in a city as creative and autonomous as Cardiff”.
